Thanksgiving week

julyeleven_0133 11-25-2013 thanksgiving 11-25-2013My most dearest Family!!!

I love you!! Man well I hear yall want to hear more funny stories from me! Is that true?

Anyhow! The update over here is super awesome! So many awesome things happened this week! We met with Wendy, an eternal Investigator from our family ward that the sisters before us had dropped this week! She is from China and as such does not speak very much english. She has been coming to church for nearly a year, but she doesn’t really understand the gospel! Crazy stuff. She comes to EVERY activity though! So the change happened for her when the Shlosser family moved into the ward. Sister Shlosser is native Chinese and she is helping Wendy to understand, and is helping teach her. Slowly but surely super awesome things happen when we believe in the power of the Lord ๐Ÿ™‚ We ate dinner with the Shlossers and Wendy along with a girl from our YSA ward who is going on her mission to Austrailia speaking chinese this Saturday. It was so awesome!!! We invited Wendy to be baptized, she said yes, and now we are just working with her to help her understand the gospel to the point where she can answer the baptisimal interview questions! ๐Ÿ™‚

This week we went on exchanges with our STL. Her name is Sister Mason and she is super solid! I went up to Santa Cruz and she came down here with sister Berry. Her comp is named Sister Yunack and this is her last transfer ๐Ÿ˜ฆ so sad! She is a STELLLLAR missionary. I LOVED being up with her and learning from her. She is SO positive and she LOVES her mission more than anything. We danced in the rain and sang and laughed and made visits because all of their appointments canceled on them. It was such a party though. It is amazing what a difference it makes when we decide to love what we do!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love Santa Cruz! The biggest thing Learned from it was probably that it truly is an every day decision that we have to love what we are doing. We choose to play on the same team as the Lord! It has changed my whole outlook and perspective!

Amy. She is amazing. She is my miracle of the week!! While we were on exchanges they met with her and she wanted to learn more! She has soooo many questions! She was introuduced to the church by one of the guys in our YSA ward and she has been coming to volleyball every tuesday! (our ysa baptisims are nearly all because people invite their friends to activities and the friends see how happy everyone is. Inviting is the best in the world!!!) ย She has such great faith and totally loves that we have prophets and modern day revelation! ๐Ÿ™‚ Love her. She came with us today to the inter-faith service project that we did. It was so fun ๐Ÿ™‚ We loaded up bags with potatoes, bread, corn, veggies, and beans and rice for families that don’t have anything for thanksgiving. There were SO many people and it went SO fast! We filled I think 1,000 bags! It was awesome!! I sent some pics ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know how thanksgiving goes!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t wait to hear how it is up in Rexburg! Tell G&G burton I love them and I send my best! We have 2 thanksgiving dinners set up but we might be able to pick up a few more for the later evening ๐Ÿ™‚ That morning we are going to be serving dinner to the homeless and people who don’t have anywhere to go over at the fairgrounds and I am SO excited! I love serving, and I LOVE being on a mission!!

Well I love you all!

OH funny story. ๐Ÿ™‚ haha so Sister Berry hates pigeons. like way past dislike. hahaha and we see a lot of them around here. So this morning we were walking over to the baptist church we were doing service at and we walked up to the door and tried it. It was locked so we went to the next one, as we turned to try it all suddenly this pigeon flew up right in front of her scaring her nearly to death! haha as such she ducked and ran.. What a sight. Oh it was so funny!! hahaha

I am SO SO SOOOOOO Thankful for you my most favorite family. You are so amazing. I pray for you and I LOVE YOU!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ have a most wonderful thanksgiving. I am so grateful to my Father in Heaven for blessing me with a mom and a dad that love the Lord and are always a party to be around. I am so grateful that He has given me you, Braydo, Westo, and Sue!! You all are amazing. You have amazing gifts and I love each one of you SOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!

Love always and forever!!

Sandboxes and Gardens

I love this mission!!!!!!!!!! Seriously it is so awesome that we do as much service as we do!! This week we got to go do AWESOME service at the “Village Project”! So we moved sand, made raised beds/boxes and filled them with dirt from Dole! The hardest part was moving the sand soooo basically we frolicked around and I felt like I was out in the arena again playing in the sand ๐Ÿ™‚ haha it is super hard to garden here because of the sand, but if you make rockin raised beds it takes that prob out of the pic haha so we leveled the sand bed part (sorry i should have taken pics!) and then the backo moved all of the sand over to the other side of the fence. Lots of shoveling but it was so fun! Needless to say I was ultra sore the next day for church! We met a bunch of really awesome people there, Derrick Williams a pastor for this baptist church in Seaside who also wrote a book (super awesome guy) He is hilarious! There were a bunch of students from CSUMB, a college in the bay area, there too and we talked to a bunch of them and invited them to the YSA bonfire that we were having that night. The bonfire was great some of the girls that came also came to church the next day and will be at our other activities. ๐Ÿ™‚ super solid. I love our YSA ward! – finding through service!! ๐Ÿ™‚

We also had quite a few really amazing miracles with finding less actives. This week we found the Mabini family. They are both converts, but 10 years ago went less active for various reasons. When we first knocked and asked if we could come back they were super unsure, but when we visited them the second time to find out where they were at and set up our next appointment the spirit was so strong. They have 2 girls. An 11 year old and a 7 amost 8 year old daughter who don’t know anything about the church!! YES!! Families!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ We invited them to church, but they didn’t come so next time we are going to get our RS pres to come with us and fellowship them so they will feel super welcome. They are awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ another miracle! Last week we were contacting on Cannery Row. As we were handing out pass-a-long cards, we missed a man who was working (normally we don’t contact people who are working) but after we had walked a little further down the street I stopped, and looked back at him. I felt like I should talk to him, It wasn’t a big impression, just a little nudge. I turned back and started to talk to him, we asked him how he was and he began to cry because of the obvious pain in his eyes. As we talked to him and he shared how he was struggling to get on top and how his wife was in and out of the hospital and how he was doing all he could to be a good man but it is so hard when so many dishonest people are getting what they want. We testified of hope through the Atonement and the peace of the Savior and how as we follow Him we will feel of that in our lives. We invited him to read the Book of Mormon and left him with one as well as some scriptures. It was so awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚ I love being a representative of Jesus Christ. He is the champion of Hope and Peace.

We also met with our Ward Mission Leader and our Bishop yesterday. We have not been working together as much as we can, and it was really great to figure out how as a ward we can be united in sharing the gospel through example! It is interesting how people in California’s perspective of the Church has been influenced by Prop 8. A great hurdle, but it is overcome by loving example! ย Dad, did you ever work with a ward mission leader?

The work is hastening!! I want to get on that train and ride it with the Lord as we work and give our hearts to the salvation of His children!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ “Ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.” Having that bright hope is the best ever!!! I love it!! I love the Gospel ๐Ÿ™‚

Keep up the Good work fam!! I love you all!!

I pray for you and talk about you all the time!! You are my heros!! Keep feasting upon the word!! I love you!!!!!!

Press Forward with Courage!

Wow!!! Has it been another crazy week or what!!

ย It has over here on the west coast! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am loving it!

Truly it is such a blessing to simplify and remember the most important things. It is vital that we LIVE the doctrine of Christ. Not just teach it. I cannot really assist in converting someone past my own conversion!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love this, because it means I can constantly grow and improve! I am taking a big look at the way I work here. I desire to truly give my whole heart and with hold nothing. To love the people here and this area with alllllll of my heart. I am grateful that the Lord is blessing me to see how I can further humble myself. This truly is such an amazing area, and it has the potential to grow so much as we have the faith!!! I love the Lord’s work! He provides miracles upon miracles even through the hardest weeks of our missions. This week was super humbling for us. (mom will you take this next part in bold out of the blog post) Kayla our dear recent convert has decided that she no longer wants to be a member of the church. She has been offended and is struggling with a lot of things. TONS of drama. Please pray for her. anyways. this amounted to hopefully one of the worst weeks of my mission so far. So many people canceling and so many people dropping off the deep end. Despite the pain of seeing people we love reject the gospel, we know that the Lord has a higher plan and we believe in him and trust him. He is amazing and has blessed us with amazing people. Particularly Yemina! She is a super sweet less active woman who has been praying for the missionaries to find her. She drove past us the other day as we were walking to visit some PIs and ever since has hoped we would find her. She is a wonderful woman from Mexico who has INCREDIBLE faith. She is married to a man who is also a member but is feeling left alone by God. Miracles happen, and we are so so glad we found her. The super awesome part of Yemina’s story is that we saw their name on the new move in list but we did not have an apartment number for the address. So we decided we would go and knock on the doors of the building that was closest to the address. ๐Ÿ™‚ We knocked, and this cute older couple answered, as we began introducing ourselves, the door across the hall opened and out stepped a woman who excitedly said “Sisters!!” – bingo we had found her ๐Ÿ™‚ so we parted with the older couple (planning on going back next week to visit them) and went in and talked with Yemina! It was super awesome. She is amazing!! ๐Ÿ™‚ This was just another proof of the Lord’s love for us and all of His children. How amazing. Last night we were over visiting another less active. Her non member son was in the kitchen making food. This story takes a little background.. So this is Tina. She is great, but she is struggling. She is not feeling very well, and lays on her couch for the majority of the day. Her son is really good at football, and he is a great student. He is struggling with the situation, and walked us out after the lesson. He asked us if we could talk really quick. He expressed his frustration with the situation he was living in and wanted to so badly strengthen his relationship with his mother. we could see the desire in his heart to improve his situation but it was so challenging to see how to do that. We invited him to pray and pour out his heart to our Father in Heaven and he would answer him. Never have I wanted to hug someone so badly but couldn’t! It was so amazing to feel and see the spirit testifying of the love the Lord has for him through us. Heavenly Father knows his children. He loves us. I love him.

ย I am so so grateful to bear the name of the Lord and the name of my family over my heart. It is such an honor to represent the Lord. I love this gospel and I know that it is true. I know that as we pray and seek the will of the Lord, He will direct our paths in ways we never could have imagined. I love you.

I love you SOSOSOSOSO much!!

Love Sister Stegelmeier
West coast for lifffeee!!!

Quick thought about the sharing the gospel.

Yes!!! The hasten the work stuff online is AMAZING. Also here is an awesome analogy our wml used ๐Ÿ™‚ if you were to go to the mooooostest awesome place for dinner, it changed your life it was so good, would you tell other people? Uhm YES!!! Haha when we value the atonement and gospel we will have a desire to share it!! Also sister Linda K burton gave a super awesome talk from october 2012 general conference. I studied it this morning! It was so good. as you read it you might want to think from the perspective of a missionary – How can thisย  help my investigators (students/the peeps you are teaching) to do this themselves? she talks about some things they wanted the R.S. sisters to do for the rest of their lives. Basically our knowledge of the atonement helps us want to share it!! see preach my gospel chapter one – the quotes in the end of the chapter. ๐Ÿ™‚

Transfers Again?!

Family!!

I dont have much time but I had the best week yet! I love this work and I love you!!!

ย It has been such a great week. I have been learning so much and I am so happy. Nothing brings me greater joy than progression and growth. There seems to be so much of that here in the mission. Our hope and faith must be centered on Jesus Christ in order to produce salvation. This is what enables us to qualify for the gift of grace.

ย We went to follow up with an referal the elders had passes us – a family of 4! They had been taught by missionaries before in Texas and we were super excited to meet them. I love teaching families and I especially love teaching prepared people by the Lord. As we prayed with them we could feel their faith and love of the Lord. They expressed to us how they were looking for a church that would enable them to continually progress as a family and not “backslide.” We taught them the power of making and keeping covenants through examples in the Book of Mormon, they realized that this is what their family needs! They are getting baptized this weekend!! They are reading the Book of Mormon as a family each night. I love this. We have such an incredible God that loves each of his children so much.

ย I have been pondering as of late the power in our names and how they connect with our covenants. As missionaries we bear the Saviors name, His church’s and our family name (being a STEGELMEIER rocks!!). When we are baptized we “take upon you the name of Christ.”ย This changes us because we “have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives.”ย ย As we stay faithful to the covenants we have made we will always remember the name by which we are called and will “be found on the right hand of God.”ย (Mosiah 5:8-9) Faithfulness until the end is what the Lord requires of us and as we come unto him he will change us line upon line until we are sanctified, proven, pure and sealed.

Wow how time flies. It is insane! Here we go with another transfer! Sister Berry and I are companions again, they might do some splitting of our districts because there are 2 new wards over in Seaside, but we always end up having an awesome district so we are excited to see what happens! ๐Ÿ™‚

Monterey is so great!! Today we woke up to rain. So crazy. haha It feels like I haven’t seen rain in AGES! Oh and we got our heater fixed in our apt so we are as cozy as bugs in a rug when we wake up in the morning haha we used to get up and wrap our selves in blankets for personal and comp study cause it was so chilly! It is tight and sweater weather now!

Saturday night we had our ward trunk or treat. It was so great! haha we really have the most awesome ward ๐Ÿ™‚ I love them. They brought so many friends that were non-members! We were able to meet a lot of them and hopefully some of these families will invite those friends over for dinner when we eat with them. – referrals are the best. ever.-ย  One of the pics I sent was with Cinderella and Hermione at the chili dinner before. Those two girls are the CUTEST! ๐Ÿ™‚ they help me greet and pass out programs before sacrament.

It has been a crazy week full of miracles and of course adventures. We had to push Kiera’s baptism back to this coming Saturday because of how busy she is with in-processing and stuff for the Army. We are so excited for her and have seen such huge progression already in her! She is so so faithful. Taylor’s baptisim was this thursday and it went super well. We were kinda nervous, but it went so smooth! Taylor is SOOO sweet and so nice! She was so excited haha she had a count down and would text us the days and hours left before thursday like every night. haha ๐Ÿ™‚ she has an amazing story, Her friend gave her a book of mormon with her testimony in the front and when she went to basic training she began to think more about it. She pulled it out, and started to read and then went to church during basic. She got online with questions about the church and ‘chatted with mormons’ and ended up getting the lessons over the phone from some missionaries in Salt Lake. – moral of the story. It never hurts to invite. Be the best friend you can be, reach out to others, and when the Spirit directs never be afraid to share ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It has changed my entire eternity. I love the Lord ๐Ÿ™‚ I love this work!

This week I have been doing some in depth study of the Holy Ghost. I love that the Lord has blessed us with a member of THE Godhead. How amazing!!! We can have the influence of the Spirit with us at ALL times. The power of the Spirit is like nothing else. We can see and hear miraculous things and they will dim and fade over time, but when we FEEL the power of the Spirit bearing witness of truth, those expierences are not quick to fade. They last on and work mighty changes in our hearts. “Can ye look up to God at that day with a pure heart and clean hands? I say unto you can you look up, having the image of God engraven upon your countenances?” (Alma 5:19) we will be able to return to our Father in Heaven as we turn away from the Natural Man and turn to the “enticings of the Spirit” ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the comfort and peace that the Spirit brings to me. I love feeling that as serve the Lord and reach out in love to His elect children! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am so humbled and grateful for the power of the Spirit in my life. I love the Atonement. I am awestruck as I think about what my Savior has done for me. I love Him. I know on His team I will always be successful!! ๐Ÿ™‚
I love each of you SO much! I am so grateful for you. Braydo you look so good in your football uniform! I love the pictures you sent!! ๐Ÿ™‚ How are you all doing?? I miss you and pray for you every night. I show pictures of you guys to everyone ๐Ÿ™‚

I love you!!!!!

Love,

“Putting Off the Natural Man

Wow what an incredible week it has been!! It has been humbling and the Lord is really teaching me to trust in Him and ACT! He did this in so many ways! First, we had a goal as a zone to teach 30 lessons this week. Our average as a companionship is 22-24 ish so it was a goal that would really help us push ourselves. By Saturday our numbers were looking about 12 lessons short and we didn’t know how we were going to do it. We spend the afternoon after church knocking on doors of people on our ward list that we didn’t know but no one answered. Feeling a little discouraged we went to dinner. Later that night we decided we were going to street contact and teach as many lessons as possible while contacting. It was really pushing it but we had the faith! in 75 minutes, we taught 9 lessons, placed 2 Books of Mormons and committed each of those amazing children of God to act on what we talked about! It was so awesome! I love being able to see the Lord’s hand work with us, to guide and direct our paths and as we really go to work, he provides us the way to touch His children’s hearts. So many times I felt that the Lord was totally holding true to his promise Open your mouths and they shall be filled…Remember they that shall have faith in me.. can.. be saved. D&C 33:8&12ย ย
ย I read a stellar talk by Neil A. Maxwell this week about putting off the Natural man and it was amazing to see how so much of our “Fatigue, comes from carrying that needless load. This heaviness f the natural man prevents us from doing” what the Father would have us do!ย  (Maxwell November Ensign 1990)ย ย ย  This talk gave me so much perspective because what I am doing out here on a mission is NOT for me ๐Ÿ™‚ it is alllllllll about the people that I am so so blessed to work with. When I believe in them, and believe that they will feel the Spirit touch their hearts, it will.ย  I love this work. I love the feeling you get after you invite someone to taste of that is most desirable above all things 1 Nephi 11:22ย ย ย  The love of God is the most precious and desirable thing we could ever seek after. I love sharing that with others and helping them to grow and be converted to the Lord’s gospel!!!ย ย

I continue to see how when we have a deep motivational drive that comes from the Lord, we will not be concerned about the approval of others! I loved conference this month because it was so focused on loving God first. ๐Ÿ™‚ Not letting fear or doubt become first and “worshiping” them. Only look up! ๐Ÿ™‚

We have been so blessed by the Lord, we have 2 baptisims this week! Both of them are in our YSA ward and they are so amazing! Taylor and Kiera!ย  The Lord is hastening His work, the fields are ready to be harvested!ย

I love this work and I love you my dear family. You all are so so amazing! Keep it up.

Sister Stegelmeier

I love being an instrument for the Lord

It’s been crazzzy! Sister Vangkue was transferred up to San Jose! So we are in a duo now! It is crazy to only be in a duo, because it has been a good 14 weeks of trio life! It is great though! We had some seriously incredible miracles happen this week! Tuesday we needed to get on the military base to meet with our investigator and it was looking like we were not going to be able to get on. So I texted all of our YSA friends and last minute one of them was free! Miracle! So we got on base, and had an amazing lesson! The Sprit was there, we invited her to be baptized and testified of the power of repentance, and she said yes! We were not expecting it, and Sister Berry replied, “wait really?” haha and she was like”ya!” so we set a date! She is super awesome ๐Ÿ™‚ We were so excited to see her at church, but she didn’t end up coming sadly. She will be there next week hopefully though!

ย That same night we met up with a girl who had watched all of General Conference at the Rehacks house (Brother and Sister Rehack are so so amazing!!! Bro Rehack is in the bishopric) She began telling us her story, how she ended up investigating, and then she proposed a date for her baptism. Again, not even expected!! She had been given a BoM when she was younger by her best friend. She grew up athiest, and then one day she just began reading it. She got online with some questions about Joseph Smith, and then saw a “chat with Mormons” prompt. So she began chatting, didn’t find her answers, tried one more time, and then two missionaries offered to call her and talk to her about it. They gave her the lessons over the phone, she went to church at the military base she was at, and wanted to be baptized. So amazing!!! She has kept in contact with that friend who gave her the BoM and is going to have her skype in for the baptisim. The Lord continues to bless us with miracles as we work! It is so so amazing to see His hand directing His children.

ย I am so so amazed at the LOVE that our Heavenly Father has for each of us. He desires us to come to Him!! To feel the miracle of forgiveness and to repent. Because “Repentance is a divine gift, and there should be a smile on our faces when we speak of it. Itย points us to freedom confidence, and peace. Rather than interrupting the celebration, the gift of repentace is the cause for true celebration.” – Elder Christofferson

I love the Lord. I love thatย  he has made it possible for us to be freed and feel the peace and hope of the Atonement!!! I am so so grateful to be an instrument in His hands. And thus they were instruments in the hands of God in bringing many to the knowledge of the truth, yea, to the knowledge of their Redeemer. And how blessed are they! For they did publish peace; and they did publish good tidings of good; and they did declare unto the people that the Lord reigneth. Mosiah 27:36-37

ย This week I have seen the changes that can happen as we come unto Christ and are healed by Him.ย  It is so good to help others see that!!ย

ย You all are so amazing!!!! I love you SOOOOOO much!!! I pray about you and I am so so so grateful for the package!! I love your notes! I love hearing about you! I pray about you every night my dear family! Dad! Good job on the job!! Have so much fun remodeling!! I’m bumbed that I’m missing out! haha you adventurers! Hey weston! how are you? Did you get into the playoffs? You are so so great!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Sue, I loved your note!! Oh and thank you for the Cookies! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love you so so much!!!!!!!

ย Love always,

ย Sister Stegelmeier
